Ordinary Stuff From Ordinary People

 A Child of the Summer

A child of the summer
A child of the sea
Hair bleached by the sun
Skin browned by the heat

She skips along the waters edge
Chasing after flocks of birds
They swirl and dive above her
While she dances to their songs

And the ocean watches playfully
As it tickles her toes with foam
While she giggles ever gleefully
At the starfish and the stones

While sitting in the cool white sand
She builds her castle at ocean's edge
And smiles and laughs as the days' light ends
As the sun above turns orange and red

A child of the summer
A child of the sea
Hair bleached by the sun
Skin browned by the heat

 And Speaking of Taco Bell........

In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth and populated the Earth with broccoli, cauliflower, spinach and green, yellow and red vegetables of all kinds, so Man and Woman would live long and healthy lives.

Then using God's great gifts, Satan created Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and Krispy Creme Donuts. And Satan said, "You want chocolate with that?" And Man said, "Yes!" and Woman gained 10 pounds. And Satan smiled.

And God created the healthful yogurt that Woman might Keep the figure that Man found so fair. And Satan brought forth white flour from the wheat, sugar and the cane and combined them. And Woman went from size 6 to size 14.

So God said, "Try my fresh green salad." And Satan presented Thousand Island Dressing, buttery croutons and garlic toast on the side. And Man and Woman unfastened their belts following the repast.

God then said, "I have sent you heart healthy vegetables and olive oil in which to cook them." And Satan brought forth deep fried fish and chicken fried steak so big it needed its own platter. And Man gained MORE weight and his cholesterol went through the roof.

God then created a light fluffy white cake, named it "Angel Food Cake," and said "It is good." Satan then created chocolate cake and named it "Devil's Food."

God then brought forth running shoes so that His children might lose those extra pounds. And Satan gave cable TV with a remote control so Man would not have to toil changing the channels. And Man and Woman laughed and cried before the flickering blue light and gained pounds.

Then God brought forth the potato, naturally low fat and brimming with nutrition. And Satan peeled off the healthful skin and sliced the starchy potato into chips and deep fried them. And Man gained pounds.

God then gave lean beef so that Man might consume fewer calories and still satisfy his appetite. And Satan created McDonalds's and its 99 cent double cheeseburger. Then said, "You want fries with that?" and Man replied, "Yes, and super size them!" And Satan said, "It is good." And Man went into cardiac arrest.

God sighed and created quaduruple bypass surgery.

Then Satan created HMOs.

Thought for the day

There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

 Two Wolves

This was sent to me via email. I thought I'd share...

TWO WOLVES

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."
The grandson thought about this for a moment and then asked his grandfather: "Which one wins?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Peace Everyone,

She Always Loved the Beach at Night

She always loved the beach at night. The moonlight reflected off the ocean in an eerie way, shining moonlight onto the foamy white caps and giving it an almost translucent glow. A cool evening breeze swept through her hair and filled her lungs with the salty air. She loved the smell of the sea and loved the beach at night. It was soothing she thought. Quiet. Solitary. As she sat on the sand near the edge of the sea, she looked out onto the horizon. She felt at one with the world. She felt perspective. She felt alone.

Turning around to look back onto civilization, she could see the lights in the distant town, the boardwalk bustling with the evening traffic of people walking, biking, and strolling along the brightly lit walkway. She sat anonymously in the dark, watching life go on without her. She thought, it wouldn't be such a loss to humanity if she were to walk into the foamy surf and disappear. No one would notice. Life would go on as it goes on now. She may be missed by a few. But life would continue. Her pain would be gone. The sea looked so soothing. Like a strong hug from a strong lover. It called to her. A tear rolled down her cheek as she looked out onto the sea.

As she sat in the sand with her knees pulled to her chest, she wondered about life. Looking back on her years she tried to remember happiness. She knew she was happy before, but she could not seem to recall the feeling. It was as if she was never happy. It scared her. Is this a realization she wondered? Had she ever been truly happy? Or was it all so superficial? Was God playing some crazy joke on her now, showing her that what she thought was happiness was never really anything more than a fleeting moment she could no longer recall? What is happiness? What was happening to her? She felt her emotions swelling to the surface and she cried. No one saw. No one heard. No one knew. She knew she was alone. She knew she was alive.
